It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a squad that has won it all.

The fact it required until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their batsmen to maintain a record if not provided the possibility.

Finally, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given a platform to create her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it has been a challenging time because it seemed my form was missing at all," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your fighting spirit take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the right-hander was in motion.

"A chance to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was out Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she later said she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

But while she later admitted those physical issues have pushed back plans to retire, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as captain.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
