Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
